The lights on the U.S. Capitol Christmas tree were turned on today! Wish I could have been there for it! I will definitely be going sometime during the holiday season...Maybe a little ice skating in the National Mall too?
The Capitol Christmas tree lights were flipped on by House Speaker Nancy Pelosi with the help of Chris Gabrielsen, a fourth grader from Havre, Montana.
Most of the tree's five-thousand ornaments were made by children across Montana as part of a statewide project.
The 70-foot-tree came from Montana's Bitterroot National Forest.
The tree will be lit from dusk until 11pm Eastern each night until January 1, 2009.
The lights on the tree are L-E-D lights that use less energy.
